Large metal pet nail clipper

Metal head, soft grip.

A scissor-style clipper for cats and dogs, built around one question: how far in does the nail go. The answer is in the shape of the head and the plate above it.

The head

The edge is a half-moon

The notch is a semicircle, not a straight blade. The nail sits down inside the curve, so the cut follows the shape of the nail instead of meeting it at a point. A round pivot screw holds the two halves together.

The guard

Guard sets the depth

The plate above the notch stops the nail at a set depth, so the bite is the same every time rather than something you judge by eye.

The lock

Locks shut for storage

Squeeze the handles together and the clasp at the top clips shut, which keeps the notch covered in a drawer or a bag. The coil spring pushes the handles apart again as soon as you release it.

Colours

Blue or green

Two colourways, same head, same guard, same lock. Each handle carries a dark textured pad on the inside, under the thumb.

The grip

Pads under each thumb

The shells are moulded plastic; the textured pads sit inside them where a thumb and a finger actually rest, which is the part that matters on a wet dog in a bathroom.
