The problem

Most slow-feeders fix the difficulty at the factory.

Buy the hard one and your dog works it out in a fortnight — and then you own a hard bowl that no longer slows anything down. This one lets you move the difficulty instead. The pegs pull out and push back in; nothing is glued in place.

The setting

Add a peg, make it harder.

Four states, one bowl: empty, three pegs, six pegs, nine pegs. Start easy with a dog that has never used a slow-feeder, and add pegs as they get quicker. Because the pegs lift out entirely, the bowl can be reset any time — for a different dog, or for a different meal.

The peg

Every peg ends in a paw print.

The pegs are dumbbell-shaped — two rounded ends joined by a waisted bridge, the profile of a dog bone. On the top face of every rounded end there is a paw print, raised in relief rather than printed, so it is part of the moulding and will not wear off.

The floor

How the slow-down actually works.

With the pegs out, the floor is still working. A dense lattice of small flat-topped studs covers the bowl, with a raised slotted grid through the middle — so a dog has to work around the studs to reach each piece of food rather than scooping a mouthful in one go. The pegs clip into that same grid when you want to raise the difficulty.

Lemon yellow with grass-green pegs. Coral red with pale-pink pegs. Ocean blue with pale-beige pegs. Grass green with cream pegs. Each bowl colour comes with its own contrasting peg colour, and each is offered either loose in an individual OPP bag or in an individual colour box.
